KOMI 3.0 — Design System for Konica Minolta

My role: UI Designer & Design System Owner
I extended KOMI for Konica Minolta, building on an existing component library with new variables, design tokens, and UI components. Alongside interface design, I owned the system and its evolution.

From brand decisions to reusable UI

A design system connects the details people see with the decisions a team reuses. My work on KOMI focused on adapting an existing foundation to Konica Minolta and extending it as new interface needs emerged.
This case study is based on KOMI Foundations 3.0. The underlying library provided a starting point; my contribution was its adaptation, extension, and ongoing ownership.

Foundations with a shared structure

The system organizes color, typography, spacing, radius, widths, and containers into reusable foundations. Primitive values feed more specific decisions for text, backgrounds, borders, and components.
The color collection supports light and dark modes. Component-level tokens cover details such as primary button backgrounds, foreground colors, and hover states, connecting individual interface elements to the wider system.

Components that work together

I created new UI components to extend the library. The resulting file includes shared controls, application patterns, and marketing website components.
Buttons show how the system handles repeated decisions: hierarchy, size, icon configuration, and interaction states are organized as reusable options rather than redesigned on each screen.

Ownership beyond individual screens

My responsibility included maintaining and evolving the design system alongside UI work. KOMI brings foundations, component patterns, and documentation into a shared Figma environment, giving future design work a consistent starting point.

My contribution

Design system ownership for Konica Minolta. Adaptation and extension of an existing component library. Creation of new variables and design tokens. Creation of new UI components. Interface design supported by the shared system.

The outcome

KOMI Foundations 3.0 connects brand foundations, reusable controls, and documentation in one system for Konica Minolta.
