Spotify — Unofficial macOS Notch Widget

I explored how the MacBook notch could become a compact home for music controls. This unofficial Spotify concept brings track information and playback controls into an expandable panel at the top of the desktop.

My work covered the interface concept, visual layout and connected interaction states in Figma.

The compact state keeps a minimal presence in the menu bar. The expanded panel brings together album artwork, track details, playback controls, progress and volume. The design explores access to everyday music actions while keeping the main desktop available.

The Figma prototype connects the desktop application, compact notch and expanded player through linked states and animated transitions. Opening, collapsing and returning to the desktop form the core of the interaction story.

The public Figma Community page showed these figures on September 21, 2026. Comments include requests for an installable version, an offer of development help and expressed willingness to pay. This feedback shows interest in the concept; the figures describe engagement with the Figma resource.

This is an independent, unofficial design concept and Figma prototype. It is not commissioned by or affiliated with Spotify or Apple, and this case study presents the design exploration rather than a released macOS application.
