Revamped Chatamo platform and designed an MVP for a bot creator. Led research, wireframing, UI design, and developed a design system. Mentored a junior designer for effective collaboration and skill development.

Futr. is a disruptive tech company using AI to offer natural conversation-as-a-service. They build intelligent chatbots for businesses and organisations to engage with their customers and employees.

I was recruited at Futr. to design the MVP of their new product. At that point they had built and launched Chatamo, a bot creator platform for small organisations enabling them automate their customer service, increase sales, connect with customers on a number of messaging apps (Web Chat, Messenger, Skype, Slack, Telegram, etc), voice channels (Amazon Alexa or Google Home) and better understand their customers with real-time insights, usage tracking, click throughs and even emotion tracing.

Drawing on the learnings from Chatamo, my brief was to design a new chatbot creator platform focused on enabling large governmental organisations and businesses improve and measure their employee engagement with AI and natural language. Bringing conversation to corporate communications, Futr.’s vision was to enable companies and employees communicate as easily as having a conversation.

At the kick-start meeting of the project I was tasked to create wireframes and user flows for a SaaS web app that enables organisations to create and deploy a range of out-of-the-box services for employees:

Employees engagement surveys

Broadcasts or announcements

FAQs

Office hours

Corporate knowledge search

Log in a HR ticket

Ability to output to email requests to leave, timesheet data and expenses information

Employee skill search and management

Dashboard (reporting and analytics on user data)

Onboard the organisation

Manage services

Setup permissions

Once we had prioritised what features to work on for the MVP I moved onto the research phase of the project. I familiarised myself with the functionality developed for Chatamo, analysed the interface, looked at analytics, conducted a competitors landscape analysis, mapped out Futr.’s potential customers and learned about employee engagement surveys, analytics and techniques.

I then created wireframes and user flows for the application’s main features that I presented to stake holders. After a few rounds of amends I moved onto the UI design phase. At this stage a Junior Designer was added to the team to help out with the production of responsive mock ups, while I focused on solving the information architecture of the app, designing components and managing the delivery of a consistent design system to developers.

What was initially planned to be an MVP resulted on a fully fletched bot creator platform for employees and customers.

The final list of features included: onboarding flow, sign in flow, 6 dashboards (users, Q&A, knowledge search, surveys, admin and live chat), Q&A library, knowledge search, announcements, surveys, live chat, absence admin, forms, settings, channel integration and billing pages.

I feel pride in realising that the designs and flows I created in only 4 months are still used by Futr. as their core product today.
