Designing a Scalable SD WAN Network Management Platform

UX/UI design for an enterprise SD WAN monitoring system focused on real time visibility, simplified infrastructure management, and scalable network operations.

The Challenge

Enterprise network teams struggled to manage complex SD WAN infrastructures spread across multiple locations, cloud environments, and providers. Existing systems lacked clear visibility, making it difficult to monitor traffic, prioritize critical connections, and quickly troubleshoot network performance issues.

The Solution

I designed a centralized SD WAN monitoring experience focused on real time visibility, simplified network management, and scalable enterprise usability. The platform transformed complex infrastructure data into an intuitive operational dashboard with clear traffic flows, network health indicators, and actionable system insights.
The UX strategy focused on reducing cognitive overload, improving navigation across distributed networks, and helping IT teams identify issues faster through visual hierarchy and data driven interactions.

User Flow – Edit a Steering Object

To simplify SD WAN policy management, I designed a streamlined editing experience focused on visibility, speed, and operational clarity. Users can manage steering objects without losing context of the overall network policy structure.
The experience uses a split drawer layout that allows users to browse steering object categories while editing configurations in parallel. This keeps the active policy table visible at all times and reduces context switching during complex configuration tasks.
Steering objects are organized by usage type such as file sharing, web conferencing, business applications, remote access, and VoIP. This hierarchy improves discoverability and helps network administrators quickly locate the correct object based on traffic behavior and business intent.
Inside the drawer, users can edit thresholds, configure probing methods, define steering candidates, and adjust link utilization settings with immediate visual feedback. All actions happen inline within the same workflow, creating a faster and more efficient configuration process.
To support scalability across large enterprise environments, the interface combines search and category based filtering, enabling users to quickly access relevant steering objects regardless of whether they prefer navigation or direct search.
The flow was designed to reduce cognitive load, improve operational efficiency, and support faster network optimization decisions in complex multi provider SD WAN environments.
