Peertime was launched in 2017 as an online tutoring platform and marketplace where students could select tutors, schedule classes, pay tuition, and interact with each other, just like in a physical classroom. Think of it as Maven, but focused exclusively on college students.
Challenge
Although, there are a lot of MOOCs from which students can chose to learn, Peertime was built on the idea of replicating in-class learning. Students are not just shown videos and asked to turn in assignments; it is a platform where active-learning is made possible through dialogue and active discussions between students and teachers.
Design Thinking-led approach
We started with user interviews to validate the founders' initial assumptions about the need for such a marketplace. After gathering user validation, I conducted ideation exercises and sessions with stakeholders to explore possible solutions that would bring their vision to life. We tested, iterated, and refined the design at every step of the journey until it was handed off to the development team.

Lo-fidelity Initial Wireframes
Our goal was to quickly obtain internal validation from the founders to ensure that we had covered all the functionality previously discussed. Additionally, we aimed to remain agile at this stage of the process. By using lo-fi mockups, we were able to communicate ideas rapidly and make adjustments within hours instead of days.
Logo and Visual Identity
Concept Explorations
Although we explored several concepts for the homepage, we ultimately decided not to use any of them.
Final Visual Design
These are some of the designs for the external pages when the user is not authenticated.
Final Product Design
Shows some of the screens from the Account Management, Live-Classroom, Scheduling and managing courses.
