Canva Creators is a global contributor program by Canva that allows designers, illustrators, and visual creators to publish their work on Canva’s marketplace and earn royalties from template usage.
Creators are selected through an application process and portfolio review. Once accepted, contributors can submit templates and design assets that become available to millions of Canva users worldwide.
Each time a template is used or exported, creators earn royalties based on Canva’s compensation model. This allows designers to generate scalable, passive income while distributing their work to a global audience.
The program continues to evolve as Canva expands its marketplace ecosystem and creator opportunities.
Canva Creators profile: Alma Aurelia
What kind of templates that I design as a creator? 👀
I primarily design social media templates, drawing from years of experience as a social media designer. Social media templates remain one of the most in-demand categories on Canva.
Initially, I focused on Instagram post designs. However, after analyzing Canva’s content library and user behavior, I recognized significant opportunities to explore new visual directions and underrepresented niches. My goal is to create templates that feel fresh, trend-aware, and distinctive — offering users alternatives beyond conventional or overused styles.
Recently, I have expanded my focus to presentation templates designed for real-world use cases. I now specialize in interactive formats such as quiz games and “This or That” presentations, creating ready-to-use decks that encourage participation and make presentations more engaging and dynamic.
Here are some of the templates I have created:
• Instagram posts
• Instagram stories
• Instagram reels
• Presentation
• Book cover
• Youtube thumbnails
• Youtube intros
• Youtube outros
• Music album covers
• and More!
What makes my templates different from other Canva templates? 🔮
You may have noticed that many templates on Canva can feel predictable or instantly recognizable as “templates.” While not all designs fall into this category, a large portion follows familiar patterns.
My intention is to challenge that perception by creating templates that are functional and ready to use, yet visually refined enough that they don’t immediately look like templates. I aim to design pieces that feel intentional, elevated, and brand-ready — allowing users to stand out without heavy customization.
Below, I break down each design category and the approach behind it.
Instagram templates 📱
Instagram posts and stories
For Instagram templates, I developed a modern and minimalist visual direction inspired by digital minimalism. Much of the interface approach draws inspiration from Apple’s user interface — clean layouts, balanced spacing, and subtle hierarchy.
I frequently incorporate gradients and soft pastel tones to create depth while maintaining a sleek and contemporary feel. The goal is to design templates that feel premium, adaptable, and visually polished rather than generic.
Below are the different Instagram styles I have created:
• Notifications/reminders
• Search bar
• Instagram features inspired (countdown, questions, and poll)
• Music/podcast interface
• and other!
Instagram reels video
For Instagram Reels templates, I created styles that align seamlessly with Instagram posts and stories to ensure visual consistency across formats. Designed with a minimalist aesthetic and elegant typography, these templates balance clean composition with the dynamic nature of short-form content.
Youtube templates 📹
For YouTube templates, I focus on creating a more natural integration between visuals and typography, allowing photos or videos to remain the main highlight with subtle text support. The overall style stays minimalist, aesthetic, and elegant to ensure clarity while maintaining a refined visual presence.
Youtube Thumbnails
I draw strong inspiration from Korean vloggers when designing YouTube thumbnails. I typically use 2–4 photo grids combined with minimalist, elegant typography to create an aesthetic yet eye-catching composition. Each template is fully customizable, allowing creators to easily replace the visuals with their own content.
I intentionally prioritize imagery over heavy graphic elements, as thumbnails play a crucial role in driving clicks. Following a “less is more” principle, text occupies less than 20% of the layout, keeping the focus on visuals. The photo grid approach clearly highlights key moments from the video, making the thumbnail both simple and strategically effective.
Youtube intros and outros
Similar to my YouTube thumbnails, I design video-based intros and outros that emphasize strong visuals supported by minimalist typography. I incorporate elements such as film camera frames, recording screen interfaces, cinematic openings, and subtle border layouts to create a distinctive, movie-inspired feel. These concepts allow users to choose styles that stand apart from conventional templates while remaining clean and versatile.
Music Album Cover Templates 💽
Music album covers
For the music album cover templates, I use structured photo borders paired with bold typography. This approach allows the mood and identity of the music to come through the imagery while maintaining an aesthetic, contemporary, and trend-driven visual style.
Presentation ▶️
I currently focus on designing interactive, game-based presentation templates such as quizzes and “This or That” formats. I chose this direction strategically — traditional presentations are often passive, while interactive formats naturally increase engagement, participation, and retention. By integrating playful structures with clear content flow, I transform slide decks into dynamic experiences that are ready to use in real scenarios, from classrooms and workshops to team sessions and events.
