The Challenge

Women Working with Women (3W Kenya) is a Kisumu-based organization that advocates for the rights, justice, and equity of lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) women in Western Kenya. Their work spans integrated health services, capacity building, research, documentation, and advocacy.
Before I came on board, the organization had weak digital visibility. Posting was inconsistent, their reach was limited, and the broader community wasn't aware of the depth of work 3W was doing on the ground. They needed someone to own their entire communications and digital presence and turn it into a tool for awareness, credibility, and funding.

What I Did

I joined as Communications and Advocacy Lead from 2024 to December 2025. In my first week, I audited their full digital presence: social media accounts, website, content gaps, and audience reach. From that audit, I built a comprehensive strategy.
Social Media Strategy & Management: I developed and executed a social media strategy across X (Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram. I created content calendars, designed visual content, wrote copy, and scheduled posts consistently. I started with Metricool for scheduling and analytics, then transitioned to Meta Business Suite as the workflow matured.
Website & SEO Blog Content: I wrote blog posts for their WordPress website, optimized for SEO to improve organic search visibility. These blogs drove cross-posting opportunities with international organizations, expanding 3W's reach well beyond Kisumu.
Community Engagement: I hosted webinars and live sessions to build community around 3W's mission. This wasn't just broadcasting; it was two-way engagement that positioned the organization as a thought leader in Kisumu's civil society networks.
Online Campaigns: I planned and ran digital campaigns that achieved strong reach and engagement. These campaigns contributed directly to 3W being recognized as an authority within Kisumu's CSO (civil society organization) networks.
Reporting & Documentation: I delivered quarterly social media analytics reports tracking growth, reach, engagement, and campaign performance. These reports gave the leadership team data to support funding proposals and stakeholder communications.
Newsletters: I created and distributed newsletters to keep supporters, partners, and stakeholders informed about 3W's programs and impact.

Deliverables

Social media strategy (X, Facebook, Instagram)
Content calendars and scheduled content
Blog posts (WordPress, SEO-optimized)
Quarterly social media analytics reports

The Result

Over the course of the engagement, 3W Kenya went from inconsistent posting and low visibility to being recognized as an authority in Kisumu's CSO networks. The SEO blog strategy led to cross-posting with international organizations, which contributed to the organization securing additional funding for their climate justice work. The digital presence I built gave them a communications infrastructure they can sustain and build on.
