WAU — Editorial, Packaging & Information Design

WAU is a visual recipe system that helps dog owners transform leftover fruits and vegetables into healthy homemade dog treats through editorial, information, and packaging design.

Designed for everyday use, the system makes it easy to identify safe ingredients, prepare recipes, and make better use of edible fruits and vegetables that often go unused. By organizing trusted information into an intuitive visual experience, it removes uncertainty and makes sustainable choices feel simple and accessible.

The project addresses one of the challenges outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. By promoting the use of edible ingredients that are often discarded, WAU demonstrates how design can contribute to reducing household food waste through practical, everyday solutions.

The system organizes recipes into modular cards grouped by ingredients and preparation methods.

Color coding, illustrations, icons, and clear visual hierarchies make recipes easy to navigate, while ingredient safety, serving recommendations, storage guidelines, and nutritional benefits provide all the essential information in one place.

Instead of creating packaging that would be discarded after opening, the concept explored a format that dog owners would actually want to keep. The sleeve transforms into a reusable dog bandana, turning the packaging into something that remains useful beyond the purchase, giving the packaging a second life while reinforcing the project's goal of reducing waste through thoughtful design.

This decision was rooted in the audience itself. For many dog owners, a bandana is something they'll keep, use, and even photograph.

The project was developed through literature review, interviews, surveys, expert feedback, and iterative user testing. Insights gathered throughout the process continuously refined the visual system, validating its clarity, usability, and overall user experience.

WAU demonstrates how editorial, packaging, and information design can transform complex information into meaningful everyday experiences.
