Most Google Search campaigns don't fail because of budget. They fail because of match type chaos.
Here's the fix I use on every account I manage:
1. Start with Phrase + Exact match only for the first 2 weeks.
2. Pull search term reports every 3-4 days, not once a month.
3. Add negatives BEFORE you add new keywords.
4. Never let Broad Match run unsupervised on a new account.
Small accounts don't need more keywords. They need cleaner ones.
What's the biggest match-type mistake you've seen on an account?
A Google Shopping account I built from scratch for an off-road parts retailer (Patriot Classic 4X4) had zero campaign structure and a messy feed when I started.
What I changed:
Rebuilt the Merchant Center feed with proper GTIN and category mapping
Restructured campaigns by product margin tier, not just product type
Rebuilt the bidding strategy around actual profit data, not just ROAS targets
The result: cleaner spend, better-qualified clicks, and a campaign structure the client could actually understand in a monthly report.
