⚠️ How to protect yourself from chargebacks on Contra (important lessons) Following up with what I learned from @David Roeske during our call. I’m sharing this because so many of us deal with unfair refund requests and possible chargebacks, and some of these details were truly eye-opening.
Here are the key things I learned:
1. Credit card payments are risky Anyone who pays with a credit card can issue a chargeback through their bank, even months later. Banks almost always side with the client, even with proof.
2. Debit card or bank transfer = much safer These payments are harder to dispute because the client actively authorized the payment. Chargebacks are rare unless it’s proven fraud.

How would we know , how the client paid on Contra ? We charge though escrow accounts to be safe, so once client deposits the advance , we start the work. Am I missing anything ?

How do we, on Contra, guarantee they pay through a debit card or bank transfer instead of a credit card since the entire process is done through their side of Contra? On the few projects I've taken on, it always just says "payment confirmed with Contra."

I don't think there's a way to confirm the payment method other than communicating with the client

It would be even more uncomfortable to demand that they make the payment via bank transfer or debit card.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as concerned about refunds or chargebacks as everyone else...
