In recent days I’ve been practicing designing around an image.
Sometimes an image can have great potential and reinforce the message we want to convey. I’m not saying this is the correct way to prepare a strategy, it’s simply an exercise. As a result, I created these three hero section designs, which I’ve published in the Figma community where they can be freely used for experimentation.
If you use them, I’d love to see the outcome, so make sure to tag me!

designing from the image first is underrated honestly. half the time the photo already tells you where the headline goes
Iván's avatar
Totally, sometimes the message is already in the image and you have to design in favor of that. I think there isn’t a single correct way, and it’s important to stay open to exploring different paths to reach the goal. Thanks!

i agree , choosing the right image can showcases the message very clearly
Iván's avatar
Exactly, the image is just as important as the headline, and they should work together in the same direction, not compete. Thanks!

designing the hero sections, taking an inspiration from images, is the best way to understand the psychology behind it. Great work tho!

What you mention is very important, the psychology behind what you sell and what the user should feel when seeing the hero. I always propose this quick exercise to the client: name the feeling your customer has right before they find you. Does your hero answer it?
Thanks for your comment Shruti!

Great exercise. Shows how much one strong image can set the tone for the whole hero.
Iván's avatar
Precisely — once you have the appropriate image, you simply need to pair it. Thank you!

The Summit one works because the path on the cliff pulls the eye straight up to the headline. The image is doing the layout's job, not just decorating it. Curious how it holds up on mobile when the crop changes?
Iván's avatar
The Summit example is clearly the strongest of the three. Honestly, I haven’t designed the mobile version yet—I’ll do it to see how the images work in that format and whether they have the same impact. Thanks, Ella!

Really like this exercise. Image-first can work really well when the visual carries part of the message, not just the mood. Otherwise, there’s always a risk that the layout starts serving the image instead of the product. The stronger examples here work because the image is actually helping communicate the idea.

I think this works well when you understand the brand and the product, and especially when there is a strong conceptual idea behind it. In that case you can look for the image first and have the layout reinforce later. Everything together becomes more powerful. It's a great...

very true, just with image we create a feeling not just a text can create
Iván's avatar
Not only do words give a message or feeling, images cause a stronger impact and are what usually first attract attention. Thanks for commenting!
