I keep seeing branding projects presented with completely opposite directions.
Minimal (premium, calm) vs Bold (energetic, loud) … all in the same deck.
And usually framed as: “both are valid.”
I don’t really agree.
If the strategy is clear, you don’t land on opposite answers. You get two directions that makes sense, maybe three if the positioning allows it, but that’s it.
Otherwise it starts to feel like you’re just giving options instead of making decisions.
To me, the role of a brand designer isn’t to present choices based on taste, but to narrow things down and guide the brand somewhere specific.
Opposite directions can make sense early on, but not as final proposals.
At some point, you have to choose.
