About this service

Summary

Sometimes you need a "second set of eyes" to bring out the best in your work. I reviewed a screenplay for a writer, and he said:
"As a professional screenwriter, I know that even the best writer has blind spots. What I need is feedback representative of an actual audience, rather than the hyper-sophisticated opinions of professional critics. If this is also what you need, I highly recommend Dan. He does not disappoint."

FAQs

  • Do you use Track Changes?

Yes I do. I do all my editing using Track Changes. When I deliver the content, I first deliver the version with the changes marked. I also deliver a second file, with all the changes accepted, so you can have a clean read of the content, to see how it works for you.

  • Do you provide critiques?

Yes, I can provide a critique of your work, indicating areas which need strengthening or enhancement, as well as comments on the overall strength of the writing.

  • How do you provide feedback?

I use Track Changes, so I add comments directly at the point of the needed change. But for areas where we need more feedback, I've found it is more helpful to generate a Word document, where I can more thoroughly discuss the issues, and suggest possible resolutions.

  • How many times will you review content as part of your editing?

I typically make three to four editing passes. The first is to correct basic errors, and get a sense of what the document is trying to say. I make a second pass to improve the clarity of sentences, making the content more active and engaging. I then edit to see how it all flows together.

  • Do you look for areas of my content that can be enhanced?

Yes I do. I worked with a writer who had a story she wanted to submit to a flash fiction contest. She had pared down the story for the contest requirements, and it hurt the flow of the story. I encouraged her to add back key elements, and her story was much stronger with those additions.

  • Are you a tough editor for new writers?

Not at all. I don't believe putting down creative efforts enhances the process in any way. I provide gentle direction and accompany it with encouragement.

  • What makes you good at this type of editing?

I have extensive promotional writing experience in a variety of fields. I also have a Marketing Degree and an MBA, and many years of experience in the business world. I bring all of that expertise to finding the best way to feature your content. I take pride in delivering an excellent product.

What's included

  • Refine Your Creativity

I begin with grammar, punctuation and spelling. Then I look for syntax and tense errors, and other minor fixes needed.

  • Strengthen Your Story

Sometimes you have looked at a work for so long that it may be difficult to spot key elements that will engage readers. I will identify and feature those moments.

  • Hear Your Voice

As I work, I take great care to listen to the voice you use in your content. My goal is to work within that voice - not to change it.
