Project: Price Control Panel (Internal Tool)

My Role: Founding Product Designer
Overview: I designed and spearheaded the development of a crucial internal tool that empowered our inventory team to manage campaign pricing independently, removing a significant operational bottleneck and increasing business agility.
1. The Challenge: A Bottleneck to Business Agility
Our fast-paced e-commerce platform ran multiple marketing campaigns each month, requiring frequent price updates for hundreds of products. The existing process was manual and slow: the inventory team would send spreadsheets to a backend engineer for implementation. This created a significant bottleneck, consuming valuable developer time and resulting in delays in launching strategic promotions.
2. My Approach: Designing for Internal Empowerment
My goal was to create a solution that would make the inventory team self-sufficient and enhance their workflow efficiency.
Understanding the Internal User: I started by conducting research with the inventory team to map their exact workflow and understand their pain points. A key insight was that they prepared price changes a day in advance, but the manual handoff to developers created a frustrating waiting period.
Prioritizing for Impact: After analyzing their needs, I prioritized key features that would deliver the most value: the ability to upload Excel sheets with price changes, a scheduling feature to set future price updates automatically, and a dashboard to manage ongoing offers.
Iterative & Collaborative Design: I created wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma, which I then tested with both the inventory team (to ensure usability) and our developers (to confirm technical feasibility). This collaborative process ensured the final solution was both user-friendly and buildable.
3. The Outcome: A 10x Increase in Efficiency
The new Price Control Panel was a major success for our internal operations.
Key Metric: It made the process of launching promotional offers approximately 10 times faster.
Impact: The inventory team was fully empowered to manage pricing independently, completely removing the dependency on developer resources for this task. The scheduling feature eliminated delays and ensured campaigns launched on time, every time.
4. Key Learning
This project taught me the immense strategic value of well-designed internal tools. Empowering your own teams with efficient, user-centered solutions can unlock business agility and free up valuable technical resources to focus on core product innovation.
