Project: Employ Skill Assessment Portal (Admin Experience)

Overview: I contributed to the design of an intuitive admin-side platform for "Kanini Academy," enabling HR administrators and managers to efficiently create, manage, and track employee skill assessments, streamlining a previously manual and fragmented process.

While the goal of the platform was to help employees upskill, the business first needed an effective way for internal teams to manage this process. The core challenge was that HR admins and managers lacked a centralized, efficient tool to create assessments, manage a large question bank, and track employee progress and training. This manual process was time-consuming and made it difficult to get a clear picture of talent development across the company. The goal was to design an admin portal that would streamline these workflows and empower our internal teams.

My process focused on understanding the specific needs of our internal users—the HR Admins and Managers—and designing a tool that would make their complex jobs easier.

Research & Discovery: I started by analyzing insights gathered from discussions with key stakeholders. This helped define the requirements for different admin scenarios, such as creating assessments for new joiners versus existing employees. I then created a User Journey Map for the Admin to visualize their process and emotional state, from the initial "Seeking Growth" phase of creating an assessment to the "Happy Note" of seeing successful employee development.

Information Architecture & Key Features: Based on these insights, I contributed to the design of an admin platform with several key features focused on efficiency:

UI Design & Prototyping: I translated these architectural plans and flows into clean, functional UI mockups in Figma. The focus was on creating clarity and ease of use, especially for data-heavy screens and complex forms, to make the admin's job less about manual effort and more about strategic talent development.

The final design provided a centralized and streamlined solution for managing the entire skill assessment lifecycle, directly addressing the initial challenges.

The platform empowered admins with an efficient system to create and manage a comprehensive question bank.

It provided managers with much-needed visibility into their teams' skills and training progress.

The final UI mockups delivered a clear and scalable system for both managing existing assessments and adding new questions successfully.

This project was a fantastic lesson in the strategic importance of designing for internal users. I learned that by empowering administrators with intuitive and efficient tools, you directly enable the success and scalability of company-wide initiatives like employee upskilling. A great end-user experience often begins with a great admin experience.
