Alag Karo is a public initiative aimed at promoting waste segregation at source, particularly within urban housing societies and communities. Backed by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), the project needed a powerful digital asset that could drive both awareness and behavior change across India’s metros.
The Challenge
The message of waste segregation isn’t new—but it’s often ignored. The task was to make it resonate emotionally and practically with a broad urban audience. The campaign video needed to be:
Educational without sounding preachy
Localized without being hyper-regional
Impactful within the first few seconds
What I Did
1. Story-First Editing
I edited the primary YouTube campaign video to create an emotional yet informative arc—focused on showing the real impact of careless disposal, and the simple mindset shift that leads to better waste management.
Cut the footage to emphasize contrast: clutter vs. clarity, chaos vs. system
Used color grading to differentiate “before” and “after” scenarios
Added lower-thirds and dynamic text for clarity and accessibility
2. Coordinated Voiceover Production
Oversaw the scripting and recording of the voiceover to match tone, intent, and timing. The narration had to be:
Simple and action-oriented
Warm, trustworthy, and locally relatable
Timed with visual transitions for maximum emotional effect
3. Platform Optimization
Edited in vertical and horizontal versions for YouTube, WhatsApp, and community WhatsApp group distribution. Included CTA overlays and end screen elements for further engagement.
Video became a core asset in the Alag Karo awareness toolkit
Used in multiple RWAs (Resident Welfare Associations) and school events
Helped train volunteers and community managers across Delhi NCR
Shared organically through WhatsApp and YouTube, increasing view count in key launch phase
Why It Mattered
Behavioral change starts with how you tell the story. This wasn’t just an edit—it was about translating a civic responsibility into a personal, emotional decision.
We didn’t rely on guilt. We used clarity, relatability, and voice. That’s what moved the message forward.
