Note: This is a spec/concept project created to demonstrate copywriting style and approach. It is not based on a real client engagement.
The Brief
A challenger fintech app targeting millennials and Gen Z wanted to break through the noise in a crowded personal finance space. The goal: drive app downloads through paid social ads (Meta + TikTok) that felt human, not corporate.
Most fintech brands sound like a bank wrote their copy. This was a chance to sound like a friend who actually knows money.
The Approach
The copy strategy centered on one insight: people don't hate managing money — they hate feeling judged for being bad at it. So instead of leading with features, the ads led with empathy and a clear promise of control.
Three ad concepts were developed across two formats: short-form video scripts (15s) and static carousel copy.
Ad Concept 1 — "No Shame"
Hook: You're not bad with money. You just never had the right tools.
Body: Most budgeting apps make you feel guilty. Ours just shows you where your money goes — and helps you keep more of it.
CTA: Download free. No credit card. No judgment.
Ad Concept 2 — "The Moment"
Hook: That moment when you check your balance and actually smile.
Body: Spend smarter. Save automatically. Watch your money grow — without thinking about it.
CTA: Start in 2 minutes.
Ad Concept 3 — "Carousel: 5 Things Your Bank Won't Tell You"
Slide 1: Your bank profits when you overdraft. We don't charge overdraft fees.
Slide 2: Saving $5/day adds up to $1,825 a year. We'll automate it for you.
Slide 3: Most people overspend in 3 categories. We'll show you yours.
Slide 4: You don't need a financial advisor. You need better data.
Slide 5: Ready to actually feel good about your money?
CTA: Download the app — it's free.
