Studio R&D, motion identity. The studio it names is our own invention. Any single frame, the cover included, is noise; open the live build to see the words.
Brief
Motion design is usually shown as something added to a still design. This piece had to prove the opposite: a message carried by motion alone, which disappears the moment it stops.
Architecture and design system
A mechanism that keeps every frame statistically uniform, so no single frame holds a trace of the words.
Two layers of grain, slow currents and scan-line letterforms. Inside the letters the grain runs one way and outside them the other; the eye does the rest.
The claims are tested on the rendered output rather than asserted: equal density in a paused frame, opposite motion between frames.
Motion and visual delivery
Grain moves only along its own run of cells. Pause it and the words are gone; Mark the word shows where they were. Words decode from their edges inward, and visitors can write their own. Space pauses, M marks, the arrow keys change coherence, S saves a frame.
Impact
A paused frame is statistically indistinguishable from uniform noise.
31 of 31 automated checks passed in Chromium and WebKit, covering keyboard use, reduced motion and seven viewports.
Measured on the published build (Chromium 141, axe-core 4.13, Lighthouse 12.8 desktop preset, October 2026):
Lighthouse 100 in all four categories: performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO.
0 axe violations against WCAG 2.2 AA at 1440 px and at 390 px.
0 third-party requests. The whole identity is one 29 KB file, 10 KB gzipped.
Studio R&D in motion identity. Every frame is statistically uniform noise and the words exist only while it moves, so the identity cannot be screenshotted. One 29 KB file, Lighthouse 100 across the board.
