MALAYA SWIMWEAR

Project Overview

I recently designed and developed a semi-custom Shopify website for Malaya, an emerging sustainable swimwear brand based in Australia. The project focused on creating a digital storefront that embodied Malaya's commitment to eco-conscious fashion while delivering a conversion-focused shopping experience. Through strategic design choices and thoughtful development, the site successfully balances sustainability messaging with compelling product presentation that drives sales.

Scope & Process

Strategy & Wireframing: Following an in-depth discovery call with the Malaya team, I developed a strategic framework that would position their sustainable swimwear in a competitive market. I identified key user journeys and conversion points specific to swimwear shopping behaviour to inform the site architecture.
Design in Figma: I created comprehensive designs that reflected Malaya's Australian coastal aesthetic while highlighting their sustainable materials and ethical production practices. The design system incorporated natural textures, a sun-kissed colour palette, and ample white space to create a premium yet approachable brand experience.
Shopify Development: I translated the approved Figma designs into a semi-custom Shopify implementation, carefully balancing visual impact with performance optimisation. By strategically customising a premium theme rather than building from scratch, I delivered a sophisticated site within Malaya's timeline and budget constraints.
Product Showcase & Storytelling: I developed specialised product page templates that not only showcase the swimwear collections effectively but also communicate Malaya's sustainability credentials at key decision points in the customer journey.

Highlights & Impact

Sustainability-Focused UX: Strategic placement of eco-credentials and materials information throughout the buying journey, reinforcing brand values without compromising the path to purchase.
Mobile-First Approach: Recognising that Malaya's target audience primarily shops on mobile, I engineered a frictionless mobile experience with streamlined checkout and thumb-friendly navigation.
Conversion Optimisation: Implemented data-backed design patterns for product filtering, size selection, and checkout that are proven to reduce abandonment in fashion eCommerce.
Scalable Foundation: Built with future growth in mind, allowing Malaya to easily expand their product catalog and content marketing efforts as their brand evolves in the Australian swimwear market.
