Redesigned NNPC Fuel App for better user experience, making it a utility-first platform that connects users to nearby stations, enables easy transactions.
The NNPC Fuel App is intended to be Nigeria’s official platform for fuel payments, station discovery, and product access. However, the existing experience struggled to meet these goals.
Most users simply wanted to know where to find fuel and how to pay easily — yet the app placed more emphasis on wallet management and BVN verification than on actual fueling convenience.
The redesign focuses on redefining the product’s core purpose: making it a utility-first platform that connects users to nearby stations, enables transparent transactions, and promotes trust between NNPC and the public.
Challenge
Outdated and inconsistent visual design, disconnected from NNPC’s identity
Station discovery and fuel availability were hard to find
Unnecessary BVN requirement created onboarding friction
“Me2You” gifting feature was incomplete
No way for users to rate or provide feedback on stations ons.
My Approach
I set out to reposition the app around real user needs — helping drivers find fuel, trust station information, and transact effortlessly.
The focus was on simplifying access, promoting transparency, and aligning design with the NNPC brand.
Onboarding
Removed BVN requirement and introduced Google and Email sign-in for faster access and broader usability.
Map-based Homepage
The homepage now prioritizes station discovery, displaying nearby stations, availability, and fuel types in real time.
Flexible Purchase Flow
Users can buy by amount or volume, pay via wallet or card (Paystack), and receive QR-based receipts for every transaction.
Fuel Gifting (Me2You)
Enabled sending fuel vouchers to friends, family, or drivers — redeemable directly at partner stations.
Station Ratings & Feedback
Introduced a post-purchase review system, letting users rate stations and report issues like poor service or shortages.
Help and reporting
To strengthen transparency and accountability, a dedicated Reporting Misconduct feature was introduced.
Users can easily report issues such as:
Overpricing or fuel hoarding
Poor service or unethical behavior at stations
Safety violations or product tampering
Wallet & Transaction
The wallet experience was redesigned to make payments simpler, faster, and more transparent.
Users can now:
Fund their wallet via transfer or voucher redemption.
View real-time balances and detailed transaction history.
