Project Overview

ICT, formerly Indian Country Today, is an Indigenous news organization covering Indigenous communities, issues and perspectives across the U.S. I art directed and designed the 2025 Impact Report for its nonprofit parent, IndiJ Public Media, bringing a year of journalism, audience growth, partnerships and organizational impact into one cohesive interactive publication.

My Role:

Turning a Year of Impact Into a Story

The report needed to bring editorial accomplishments, community impact, audience data, partnerships, organizational growth and financial reporting into a single cohesive publication. The design system had to make that range of information approachable, while interactive links connect readers to full stories on the ICT website.
I designed a flexible editorial system that could shift between narrative storytelling and dense information without losing visual continuity. For the metrics, I used scale, typography and hierarchy to bring key figures forward while keeping secondary data easy to scan and understand.

A System Built for Storytelling

The impact section required a different kind of density, balancing multiple stories, photography, supporting material and voices within a limited space.
I designed a repeatable editorial structure that creates consistency while giving individual stories and images their own weight. Interactive links extend the experience beyond the report, connecting readers directly to the original journalism on the ICT website.

Giving Dense Information Structure

The partnerships section brings together organizations, programs, regions and initiatives, each requiring enough context to be meaningful without overwhelming the page.
I organized the content into a clear, easy-to-scan, modular hierarchy. The client also wanted to incorporate testimonials throughout the report but needed a way to distinguish them from the primary narrative. I developed a recurring vertical callout treatment that gives those voices their own space while becoming a recognizable visual element throughout the publication.

One Design Style, Radically Different Content

Staff, leadership and board information required a very different structure from the editorial pages while still needing to feel part of the same publication.
I developed a modular system with distinct levels of hierarchy. Editorial and business staff use compact, consistent profiles designed for quick scanning, while board members receive larger portraits and more visual space. Typography, scale, color and image treatment distinguish roles and groups without introducing an entirely new visual language.

Designing for Transparency

Financial reporting, donor recognition and giving information bring some of the report’s densest and most utilitarian content together on a single page.
I treated the three-year financial comparison as a primary visual element rather than a conventional data table, using scale and color to make year-over-year revenue and expenses immediately readable. The supporting donor and giving information then follows a quieter hierarchy, keeping the page useful without letting administrative content overwhelm the financial story.

One Report. Many Visual Layers.

Editorial storytelling, photography, audience data, organizational information, partnerships and financial reporting each demanded a different design response.
I brought those layers together through a flexible visual system that could change with the content while keeping the report cohesive, clear and recognizably ICT from beginning to end.
