My experience building a Interior Wand one of the first AI renovations tools in 2022

The year was 2022, right at the start of AI adoption in broader web design and development, I would say I was very early to hearing about ChatGPT when it was GPT-10. And then I got access to GPT-3 with 60,000 other developers from around the world. At that time, it was like I got gifted a magic trick. Or in a movie, you wave your hand in a funny way and flames come out of the other end, and you realise you have a power. That's how I felt. This was the most powerful technology I've seen. It was psychologically transformative in forecasting and seeing patterns of how this will unfold. This year, I think I built around 15 different prototypes. Now they're called AI wrappers. One of them was interiorwand.com.

Why I built this?

I built this because I really wanted to showcase my skills in a way that friends, family, and peers could understand right away and finally use. This was a universal tool that allowed someone that had a phone to point it anywhere and recreate what their home bedroom, garden, driveway could look like. So I posted on LinkedIn an ex and it went super viral. And I sent it to my family group chat, and friends sent it to friends. And it was a great feeling because for the first time in ever, I built something that the people around me can use. And give me feedback on and I felt understood.

What I learned?

I learned so much building an interior design platform that utilises AI. At the time, we were leveraging Stable Diffusion XL, and that was the best model out there. Literally, everywhere I went to shops, restaurants, gyms, I would use this platform and see improvements and find new ways of tweaking prompts and creating different visual guides to improve that app. It was the very first time that I was building, iterating through client/user feedback, and building in public. This was a foundational experience because prior to that, I would build for clients or build for a portfolio project. But this became a product that had real users and allowed me to learn as I built.

Wow! A blast from the past. This was my first AI native application where I developed an AI Interior design tool for dynamic home visualization.
