The Loyola Academy Rowing Association gives students the opportunity to learn the techniques and traditions of rowing, with an emphasis on teamwork and perseverance.

        After their 2019/20 season was cut short by COVID-19, the teammates, coaches and parents sought alternative ways to stay connected and practice their shared values. In this spirit, their 2019/20 Annual Report was themed “Tradition. Connection. Commitment.”

        With a foundation of traditional styles, the book’s layout brought a more aspirational appeal to this year’s story. Taking visual cues from rowing and water, typographic details such as pull-quotes were composed with fluid, horizontal movement. Photographs contrasting size and scale, color and black & white, highlighted the devotion of the student-athletes. Through visual storytelling we aimed to communicate the year’s theme without having to read any copy.

        All photos are from Loyola Academy students and parents. Fonts used were Saol by Schick Toikka, IBM Plex and Chronicle by Hoefler&Co.
