FundMyWater is an innovative finance matchmaking platform that tackles the financing challenges of small-scale water infrastructure projects in Kenya. The project leverages technology to make water infrastructure investments fast, collaborative, secure, and economically viable for funders and water service providers.

The FundMyWater digital platform must be straightforward and user friendly, enabling water service providers to easily apply for funding online, and receive seamless screening of their projects.

In August 2023, the FundMyWater team reported a snag at user registration, as the application process was too lengthy, leading to high user drop-off. The team required a redesigned registration flow, which would strike a balance between collation of useful information, and ease of application for funding.

In addition to this, several improvements within the app were required, as the application had been launched as an MVP, with minimum UI/UX design input.

Using the information collected during stakeholder interviews, I began working on the wireframes and low fidelity prototype to incorporate the necessary design enhancements.

Once these were complete, I had further engagement with stakeholder and engineering teams, to obtain feedback on the designs.

After low-fidelity design approval, I moved on to design a high fidelity prototype.

This phase began by building a design kit that would reflect the visual identity of the brand and ensure cohesion across the project.

The high fidelity prototype was illustrated to ensure seamless flow at registration, with an improved look and feel to enhance engagement. Global improvements to the design were incorporated, and the home page was upgraded to encourage user retention and clearly communicated the message behind the brand.

As a result of the redesign, onboarding success on the Fund My Water platform went up by at least 20% in 2024.

Positive feedback from users of the platform validated the usability improvements.
