Nuro | Web Design

Matt Carvalho

Intro

As VP of Studio at Goodness, I led the design of Nuro’s digital identity and user experience from the ground up. My role was to translate their mission—bringing autonomy to everyday life—into a dynamic, scalable digital system that could grow with the brand. From UX architecture to motion design, I directed every aspect of the experience to ensure the site didn’t just inform—but moved, evolved, and told the story with purpose.

The Brief

The brief was to imagine the digital experience from the ground up: a system that could scale with the company’s rapid growth while making the brand feel human, hopeful, and in motion. The website had to do more than explain the technology—it had to bring the mission to life with clarity, emotion, and depth while creating a system that would need to flex and scale to match the companies growth and future ambitions.

The Approach

We approached the site not as a static marketing tool—but as a dynamic storytelling platform designed to evolve. The core challenge was to create a flexible UX structure and design system that could communicate deep tech and civic optimism in equal measure—while remaining modular enough to adapt to product updates, partnerships, and press cycles.

Designing for Flow, Flexibility, and Narrative

We built the site architecture around an editorial flow: a clean, modular layout system that allows content to expand or contract without breaking visual rhythm. Key sections—like "Technology," "Company," and "Safety"—were treated as narrative arcs. Every interaction was intentional: scroll behaviors, transitions, and content reveals were orchestrated to mirror Nuro’s sense of intelligent motion.

Design System

We developed a component-based design system grounded in simplicity, adaptability, and emotion. Every block—hero modules, quote pulls, stat cards, callouts—was designed to work independently or in sequence, allowing teams to build and rebalance stories on the fly.
Motion was used strategically—not as decoration, but as connective tissue. Microinteractions and scroll-based animations provided cues, created rhythm, and reinforced a sense of continuous, autonomous flow. The result: a UI that felt alive, intelligent, and aligned with Nuro’s technology.

Flexible Content Types

The site was engineered to scale. From product pivots to press releases, the system could support high-velocity content without sacrificing consistency or clarity. We built flexible content types, integrated scalable CMS fields, and documented interaction patterns to ensure internal teams could create without reinventing.
Whether Nuro was announcing a new city launch, showcasing a new vehicle model, or telling a founder story, the platform was built to adapt and express—without going back to square one.

Brand Storytelling

We knew Nuro’s story wouldn’t be static. It would evolve—new use cases, new cities, new partnerships. So we designed a storytelling system that was modular by default and emotional by design. Every page structure and UI component was built to support different content modes: high-level brand vision, detailed product specs, or founder-led storytelling.
