Studio Obyss was founded to create digital experiences and brand identities with depth, clarity, and intention. The studio focuses on thoughtful design grounded in strategy and emotional resonance, favouring originality over trends. Its process is collaborative and exploratory, built on curiosity and a commitment to meaningful work.

This case study outlines the development of the Studio Obyss identity and website as well as the principles that shaped it.

I began by outlining and brainstorming the brands tone of voice, value proposition and target audience. Once I had these key insights we started to develop concepts and different visual directions for the brand. As this is my studio, I knew I wanted to look visually different from other design studios and have our own distinctive style. The idea was to work around the word Obyss, which is a play on the word Abyss. The concept was to show the beauty within the darkness and the hope, freedom and deep thoughts that can come from being in the darkness.

The tone is deliberately bold and direct as those are the types of designs that we love creating and excelling in. We don't want to create mediocor designs or designs that blend in with competitors. We want to be bold and have fun with our clients.

Once the concept was nailed down and refined I started to sketch out the sitemap and flow of the site to really nail down the content and site structure. I then moved on to drawing wireframes for both mobile and desktop to get a feel of how the content would sit together and a rough layout. This is such an important step that shouldn't be missed out as the content, strategy and UX is key to achieving high impact sites that convert and resonate with users. Only once this was complete, did I then move onto creating the UI for the pages and constructing a design system, for when more pages and blocks eventually get added to the website, the designs can easily scale and makes the process a lot easier and efficient.

Once the designs and design system was completed, these was then handed over to our developer to build the website on Webflow.
