5 Proactive measures for understanding router security

"Explore in-depth the security features and settings available in modern routers."
“Privacy is important,” isn’t it?
From binge-watching on Netflix to completing assignments, we use an internet connection. We use different social platforms and apps and chill at home without giving any thought to our network security. We use many gadgets like cameras, speakers, and many more without thinking about online security or whether the internet we use is secured or not.
In the 21st century, we use this equipment called Routers, under which LAN (local area network) is used to manage network data using packets, which contain various data in various forms like files, etc. It is quite easygoing and has greater solidity in large environments.
But have you ever thought that the router you are using is even safe? Do you have a protected network? What if someone gains access to your network and damages your privacy, and you don’t have a clue about it?
A little carelessness can allow hackers to get into our computer systems. It can further lead to any kind of cybercrime.
Relax; there are many ways to prevent this.
So here are the 5 best router settings to Keep hackers off your cameras:

1. Set new passwords regularly.

Every device has a password that you set for security purposes. It’s your responsibility to make sure that the password is strong. It should have complex, long, and unique characters included. Try to set a unique password that will be tough enough for hackers to guess. Different passwords for different devices You can also use a password generator of different types for assistance. And never share your password with anyone. Passwords should always be confidential.

2. Check your updates:

Keep monitoring your latest updates. It’s normal not to get notifications of an update for your router because nearly every router comes with the option to update firmware manually. If your router comes with the option of “automatic update”, turn it on, and then it will be enabled. Through your device’s IP address and admin password, your firmware will be updated.

3. Use an updated built-in firewall.

Routers are available with a built-in firewall these days. This computer application protects against network attacks. Every router doesn’t have the same label for its firewall. You could find various port optimisation tools on the router’s admin page under the “advanced” setting. But be careful here; a single mistake can easily allow a hacker to breach in. If you have made any mistakes, then call a trained technician and optimise your port settings.

4.Encryption for Wi-Fi security:

Different types of Wi-Fi encryption provide different levels of security; some are weaker or stronger. But these new wireless features in WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3) form stronger network security. While some old versions do not have these advanced security measures and are comparatively weaker, They also don’t have WPA encryption. “WPA2-PSK AES” is the second-best option to use. If your router doesn’t work with WPA3 or WPA2-PSK AES, then click this encryption: “WPA2-PSK AES + WPA-PSK TKIP”. You can check your encryption settings on the router’s admin page under the “Security” menu.
Warning: Don’t select the option “open” under Wi-Fi security. This means no protection at all, and it would be easy for the hackers to hack.

5.Optimise your Quad9 DNS settings:

When opting for a new Wi-Fi service, IPS provides a default DNS service. Then go for more secured DNS servers like Quad 9. The Quad 9 DNS does not store personally identifiable information, which means no cybersecurity issues like wholesale fraud, data breaches, etc. can happen. After analyzing, visited addresses or links are tested in IBM X-force threat intelligence data, which prevents your entry into an infected network.

CONCLUSION:

Be aware of all these above-mentioned tips and secure your camera network from hackers with these simple, easy steps. Nowadays, we use the internet so often that online privacy should be our immediate concern. We can’t let any hacker interrupt our privacy and get it leaked. These crimes know no limits, physical or virtual. So online protection is a must. Be protected and cautious.
