For those who are deaf, music is not just about sound.
— James Merry for The New York Times
Vibe is a conceptual brand that offers a product and a service to enrich the experience of music for those who have a form of deafness or hearing impairment. Vibe's mission is the pursuit of inclusivity and representation and to empower a community often left out.
There is a common misconception that those who are hearing impaired or deaf cannot enjoy music the way able-hearing people can. But in fact, their experience may just be even more magical.
Deafness has a spectrum—being deaf does not mean that someone does not hear anything at all; there are varying levels. Due to being hearing impaired, the other four senses become heightened. Vibrations and lyrics are just some ways people with a form of hearing impairment can enjoy music.
Through Vibe's app service, users can order a personalized hearing aid or, if they prefer, a pair of headphones that fit over their existing hearing aid (to avoid removal). The user will receive this aid in the mail, and after unboxing it, they can connect their hearing device to Vibe's app via bluetooth.
Overall, users can shop for personalized hearing aid devices, vibe to their favorite songs (through lyrics, color fluctuations, and sign), watch content creators or become content creators, and meet and connect with people, all on one app.
Music is felt on a physical level by everyone. Getting a buzz in our core when the bass is plucked or feeling the power of a drum that mimics our life force is universal. A hearing person can only try to imagine the sensations that are much more developed in a deaf person.
