Advantages and Disadvantages of Computer

The computer was invented in 1822 by Charles Babbage but, he wasn't built the computer. In 1945, ENIAC built the first computer, which filled a full-one room. And in 1973, the Micral N was the world's first personal computer (Britannica).

A computer is a device defined by its alphabet. In computers, the alphabet C means commonly, O means operated, M for a machine, P for particular, U means used, T means training, E for education, and R for research(ofgeeks). So, a computer is a commonly operated machine used for training, education, and research. The use of computers is very common in this century. Computers give many benefits or have many advantages as well as many disadvantages also. Describing below, first the advantages and then the disadvantages of computers.

Communication: Computer helps us to communicate worldwide. It connects one person with another free of cost by using the mailbox feature. It’s easier to communicate and do business deals by doing some clicks(ofgeeks).

Accuracy: A computer is an accurate device and gives accurate calculations. Also, it works according to our commands accurately(ofgeeks).

Storage: Computers have in-built memory where we can save a good amount of documents, audio, videos, photos, etc. Its memory is also expandable.                                      Educational sources: We can save our notes and books on a computer. We can study on a computer. We can take classes online using apps like google meetings, zoom, etc. We can give our examination by using computers.

Entertainment: A computer is a source of entertainment. We can watch online sports, movies, live, etc. We can see the culture of the whole world by using it. We can also play video games on it.

Source of income: A well-known benefit of a computer is that people use it as their source of income. Many e-commerce platforms are available on the internet. We can access them accurately on those platforms by using a computer. Working from home is a good advantage given by a computer.

Speed: Along with accuracy and storage, computers are well known for their speed. People should do their tasks on time. A human mind can do calculations in many hours while using computers, the same calculations should take a few seconds(ofgeeks).

Health: Using a computer for a long time would affect eyesight. A person can feel laziness and face different health issues like fat on the body, dark circles around the eyes, etc  

Environment: Computers that break down are thrown into the trash. It is this smell that creates pollution after decomposition. And it is very bad for society (Bilgin et al.).

Time Wastage: Students play video games on a computer and waste their time of study on it. It is a negative impact on our society that youngsters are using computers for video games. They are wasting their time on it. It would affect their health also.

Addictive: People who spend most of their time watching movies and playing video games on a computer are addicted to it. It would be affecting their health and their time.

Crime: Criminals can misuse computers. They can hack the victim's system and gain access to their data. Then commit theft or any other crime.

Hacks and Viruses: Hacks and viruses are a huge disadvantage of a computer. People use hacks to see others' personal and private data. Viruses are also effective because one virus can hang up a computer, removing data from the victim's computer.
