The Product That Raised €15M: Designing Formalize’s Flagship

We helped Formalize scale from a team of 10 to a funded, high-growth company by embedding with them as their design partner. Shipping fast, thinking strategically, and crafting two core products that powered their business growth.

Scaling Design Alongside Growth

When Formalize first partnered with New Arc, they were a small, ambitious team of just 10 people. Over the next two years, we worked side by side as their embedded design partner, helping them scale their product.
Today, Formalize has grown to over 150 employees and raised more than €15 million in funding, with the product we collaborated on playing an important role in that journey. This is the story of how strategic, fast, and deeply integrated design helped power their trajectory.
Formalize came to us shortly after launching their first product. The foundation was there, but they needed a partner who could move quickly, improve the experience, and bring clarity to a rapidly evolving roadmap.
More importantly, they were beginning to plan a second, more ambitious product, something that would become the core of their business. They didn’t want an external agency to hand off files once a month. They needed someone to plug in, think alongside them, and move at startup speed.
Our challenge was to deliver high-quality product design at a fast pace while participating in high-level product and strategic decisions, all as an integrated extension of their team.

Design at Startup Speed

We embedded directly into Formalize’s workflow. Over the course of two years, we became an integral part of their product team. Not just as designers, but as collaborators. We participated in roadmap discussions, design critiques, and sprint planning. We were in the same Slack channels, the same Figma files, and the same weekly standups. Our work spanned everything from UX audits and incremental improvements to their first product, all the way to leading the design of their second, flagship product.
We helped build new features, refine workflows, and create scalable design systems, all while maintaining the flexibility to pivot as their product and business evolved. Throughout the partnership, we emphasized speed without sacrificing quality. Fast turnarounds, real-time collaboration, and iterative feedback loops allowed us to maintain momentum while aligning closely with product and engineering teams.

Fueling a €15M Growth Story

The flagship product we designed became Formalize’s primary revenue driver. Investors were impressed by the product experience, and the design played a direct role in helping them raise capital. As their team scaled from 10 to over 150 people, we remained their design partner, adjusting to their evolving needs while helping maintain design consistency and strategic focus.
We also helped Formalize establish a long-term design system that continues to support internal teams, enabling them to move faster and stay aligned as they grow. This partnership reinforced a core belief at New Arc: the best design doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when designers are embedded in the process, trusted to make decisions, and aligned with the long-term vision. Working with Formalize showed us how much more impactful design becomes when strategy, speed, and collaboration come together.
