Being trained in journalism means a few things:
I've written articles in a variety of tones, so I can adapt my writing for multiple audiences
Concise copy is crucial (readers like to skim!)
Copy doesn't need to be complicated -- ease of comprehension, and accessibility, is key
I gather research and ask open-ended questions before delving into a story
AP Style is my best friend

The Scarlet & Gray Free Press - Las Vegas, NV

Staff Writer for the Arts & Entertainment and News sections, covering events within and around campus.
Our #1 goal: Ensuring that our content was relevant and relatable for UNLV students.
We met through Google Meet, reviewed our weekly releases, and claimed pitch ideas for articles.

“The paradoxical aesthetic of boredom”

2020
Summary: For this article, I attended Musicologist Elizabeth Lindau's evening guest lecture at UNLV and reported on it. Once it was over, I headed straight to Google Docs as our deadline was the next day, edited it, and then posted it in our newspaper's shared drive. After the copy editors had a look at the article, it was published in the Arts & Entertainment section online and in print.

“Works on Paper” exhibit is UNLV’s hidden gem

2020
Summary: I met up with the curator for an exhibit titled "Works on Paper" at the Donna Beam Gallery at UNLV. I'm not super art savvy, but appreciate it all the same. To prepare, I researched these pieces of work, and found that they're mostly sourced from local artists. This gallery is located in a hidden part of campus, and it was rewarding to share this quiet exhibit with the student body.

UNLV partners with the University of Washington on study researching dietary interventions among older adults

2021
Summary: I reached out to Dr. Brenna Renn, who was the senior author of the study "Behavior change factors and retention in dietary interventions for older adults: scoping review." This research was in collaboration with the University of Washington, and I reported on what the results of the study meant for older adults.
I also interviewed Samantha Coogan, a nutritionist and professor at UNLV for her take on this research and how it relates to university students.

Projects for my B.A. in Journalism & Media Studies

Various articles written in my journalism classes. These articles were written using Google Docs and were submitted as final projects.

Las Vegas, the lost oasis

2022
Summary: This article was written for my Advanced Reporting class during my junior year of college. We were tasked with writing two versions of the article -- a short form and a long form. This is the long form, which includes more narrative elements. Few people know that Las Vegas was once filled with springs and meadows, and this article delves into why it is the way it is now.

Dream of crop top-ification

2022
Summary: Written for my Magazine Writing and Editing course, this article ended up being a passion project. In women's fashion, there is a plague of crop tops. Though I myself love to adorn such an item, it is, in my opinion, ruining the state of everyday fashion. It's a hot take, but someone needed to say it.

Biggest little city in the world

2022
Summary: After spending a few months working in Boulder City, I was in awe at the amount of community, trust, and love the residents of this city has for each other, and for its overall history. Boulder City is the Stardew Valley of my dreams.
I sent a Google Form with my interview questions to the people I knew here, and asked them to send it to their friends and families. They all got back to me quickly, and I put together this article as a result.
