Do you remember the film Avatar, where Jake draws out his long plait (his neural queue) and attaches it to the antennae of the Direhorse and then there’s an interconnection between the rider and the horse?
They’re communicating neurally.
Now imagine if a car does this with its driver.
How would it be or feel?
What would it look like?
When Alexander Dang, Advanced Exterior Designer, roughly designed his imagination of a car for a Mercedes competition he never thought his design would win.
He did! He Won! Which meant that his imagination on paper also won.
It came to life!
The Mercedes Benz Vision AVTR is proof of this. Designed with close collaboration with The AVATAR Team, the VISION AVTR stands for Advanced Vehicle Transformation.
It’s further developed and the protocol looks beyond futuristic. It’s that car where you literally can’t take your eyes off. It reminds me of an era that has not yet arrived.
It’s futuristic in every sense. The way it’s designed is unconventional and the materials used in the car are all sustainable.
Here’s a brief idea of what went into using the materials in the car.
The fabric of the car seat is made out of DINAMICA, vegan leather, made out of recyclable materials from ocean waste plastic.
The wood used inside is made out of Karuun wood. Also, the AVTR being an electric car has organic batteries which are 100% recyclable that do not consume unnecessary power or emit toxic gases. The engine power of the car is more than 350KW.
This VISION AVTR isn’t just designed for driving. It’s more than driving. It’s designed for interaction and an inter-relationship with the driver.
Once the driver sits inside, the car comes to life.
It’s pulsating.
What do I mean by pulsating?
Remember, in the beginning, I mentioned Jake and the Direhorse’s neural interconnection? That’s right.
That’s about it. That’s exactly what this car does. It rides at the touch of your palm.
I think that’s what Alexander Dang must have thought of while designing this car. He successfully merged this thought of interconnectivity whilst designing the car.
There’s No steering wheel inside the car.
There’s just a small white mound of layers that gently rises and pulsates once it senses your palm, like it knows that you just sat inside the car and is welcoming you not with a robotic pleasantry but with stunning scenery.
The free flaps called the Bionic flaps which are the solar panels at the back of the car, help reduce excessive heat and energy consumption. Keeping the car on track with the aerodynamics and speed, the flaps move freely.
It follows the rhythm of the car. Symbolising the movements of a fish gill.
Ever imagine riding a car sideways?
This is another interesting element of the car. Yes, this car rides approximately 30 degrees sideways resembling a crab-like movement.
You can raise your palm and see all the options of the car reflect on your palm. You can choose from the options and start driving. Anyone can take over the driver seat, meaning, the person sitting next to the driver can also take over the car without changing seats.
For an immersive experience, the VISION AVTR is installed with real-time 3D graphics which has different sceneries that the driver can enjoy and at the same time drive and watch the road.
The VISION AVTR is an interesting blend of technology and human imagination. The experience is visually delightful.
I’m curious to see the future where this VISION AVTR would be a regular on the streets…
