The Houston Humanities Society is looking to support and
encourage students through our new Program, Students of Classics. The program
we have designed is meant to target Elementary and Middle Students in Houston's
impoverished area, who otherwise might not have the chance to learn about
Classical Art and Culture. We desire to give schools in the area new books that
are grade-appropriate to allow librarians and teachers to encourage students to
read about the Arts. We also want to provide schools the chance to visit the
downtown museum district to explore and learn more about Classical history. We
are also working with several museums to develop day tour programs to get kids
interested in the Arts and artifacts they see.Our primary goal is to show lower-income
community children about the wide-ranging studies of the Classical Arts. The
Society's Mission is to sponsor the Arts and culture of Local Houstonians and
bring world culture to the city. We have, in recent days, been struggling to
find new and younger members to join our society, but we also lost significant
donors. And with the pandemic getting students not just to learn but love
school has become complex, and we want to have these programs in place so that
when schools completely open, the students and teachers will have these new
tools. We are excited to hear from your committee and understand that your
program only picks twelve groups to receive your $10,000 grant each year. We
hope you will choose to help us continue to educate and support Houston's
children to gain a wide-ranging education.
