“Madrid, at the beginning of the 19th century. The “Puerta del Sol” was already a meeting point for locals and a space for cultural events. There were a series of shows made with Chinese shadows, and puppets. One of the representations, which aroused more expectation, was precisely “the one who plays with the golden ball (Bola de Oro)”. People began to say, go see the Golden Ball to refer to going to the Puerta del Sol. Many establishments, aware of the engagement that was the name of “The Golden Ball”, began to use that name. The name of “La Bola de Oro” spread throughout the peninsula, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. One of the first establishments to settle in Granada on Avenida Cervantes was precisely a picnic area called “La Bola de Oro”. And that, shortly after, gave the name to that area of Granada.”
