Goal + Overview
As part of the crew behind Contra's blog, The Contrarian, I get to dive deep into all sorts of cool topics - tech, startups, hiring, freelancing, you name it. I scour the internet and beyond for the best info, then spin it into articles that make you go "huh, never thought of it that way".
Basically, we're all about questioning the norm and getting people to think outside the box on how they can work as a freelancer or hire freelancers for their team!
Process
I worked alongside Graphite, an SEO specialist agency, who created a lot of the blogs on The Contrarian. My role was to review topi lists, content briefs, and article drafts. Below in "Results" I will link to a a few blogs I wrote!
Deciding the Blog Topic: Start by picking the brains of your community. Look at their interests, concerns, and what they're talking about. Use these insights to narrow down a relevant, engaging blog topic. We used our Slack + socials for this!
Research with Ahrefs: Now it's time for some SEO magic. Use Ahrefs to look into the chosen topic's searchability. What are people searching for? What keywords are hot? This will guide you on how to frame and focus your blog for maximum reach.
Writing the Blog with ChatGPT: With the topic and SEO research in hand, jump into writing with ChatGPT. Let the AI assistant do the heavy lifting. Guide it through the writing process, curate the output, and put together a draft that's informative, engaging, and SEO-optimized.
Inserting Social Embeds + Callouts: To make the blog post more interactive and engaging, incorporate relevant social media content. This could be Tweets, Instagram posts, YouTube videos, etc. Also, remember to add callouts, like quotes or important points, to catch readers' attention and emphasize key messages.
Posting on Socials: Once the blog post is live, don't forget to shout it out on your social channels. Use snippets, quotes, or intriguing questions to entice your followers. Remember, it's not just about posting; engage with your community, answer their comments, and encourage discussion. This will give your blog post the exposure it deserves.
