Overview

WeLoop was a project that aims to reduce packaging waste. It is a community group refill shopping delivery that comes with reusable, returnable packaging. The design was strongly rooted in user research and data-driven.

Concept statement

WeLoop is a group refill delivery service for individuals who cares about packaging waste issue but lack motivation and access to reuse and refill solutions, that encourages them to reuse and refill in returnable packaging with others in the community, overcomes the feeling of fighting packaging waste issue alone through group ordering from refill shops.

The problem

From the qualitative user research that was conducted to understand users' reuse and refill behaviour, attitude towards reuse and refill and their pain points, it was found that

Refill stations are not always accessible and users do not want to travel for the shop due to time and cost.

Refill shopping less flexible compare to regular shopping. Users have to plan and prepare containers ahead so no spontaneity is allowed.

Users have a feeling of fighting packaging waste issue alone which makes them believe it's not possible to create any impacts.

The design principles

With an in-depth understanding of the users' pain points, I crafted 4 design principles for the product.

Flexible - to overcome the distance and time cost barrier of doing reuse and refill

Companied - to inform users they are not the only one who try to make changes to their lives

Reassuring - reassure users of the environmental impacts they created

Scalable - potential to expand to retail and food & beverage industry in the future

The solution

Transition to reuse from disposal

WeLoop is a community group refill shopping delivery service that comes with reusable and returnable packaging circulation. It means your purchases are delivered in containers specifically designed to be sent back, cleaned, and used again, but not go to the trash.

Companionship over isolation

At WeLoop, we believe in companionship over isolation. When you join a group order, you're not just making a purchase – you're becoming part of a team that's united by a shared purpose.

Each month, there will be a packaging reduction goal. As your community collectively work towards it, you'll earn a place on the leaderboard. You can witness the impact of your individual and combined efforts in measurable and relatable equivalence.
