Task

MoneyMate is a financial product designed for Deloitte Digital UK. The financial and UX design team briefed us to elevate the inclusivity of students' financing experiences. To do this, we must put the user at the centre of the design process.

✦The Problem

Being in a new country adds another layer of complexity to managing money, especially for those just starting to manage their money. Therefore, we believe there is an opportunity to elevate the money management experience of international students.

Key insights

1. Financial Blindspot 👀

They want to feel assured that their financial decisions are right, but it's hard to judge because they're unfamiliar with local prices.

2. Short-term thinker 📅

The sudden change from weekly or monthly income to receiving up to a year's worth at once hinders long-term planning and leads to overspending.

3. Decentralized Finances 💸

Opening bank accounts at different times upon arrival decentralizes finances, making it difficult to track money and causing a loss of control.

4. Peers as Benchmarks 👭🏻

They see peers as a benchmark and need to catch up, finding reassurance in aligning their financial progress with their peers.
