The Challenge

Planning a trip is exciting until it becomes a logistics nightmare. Travelers bounce between Google Flights, Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Google Maps, spreadsheets, and group chats trying to piece together an itinerary. By the time the trip starts, the planning process has already exhausted them. The information is scattered across a dozen apps and browser tabs.
This project focused on designing a travel planning app that consolidates the entire trip planning experience into one place. The goal: make planning feel like part of the adventure, not a chore.

Design Approach

The design process started in Figma, where every screen was crafted to reduce the friction between "I want to go somewhere" and "my trip is fully planned."
Key design decisions:
Destination discovery with visual inspiration. The home screen leads with stunning destination photography and curated travel collections. Users browse by mood (adventure, relaxation, culture, food) rather than just searching by city name. Inspiration drives the first interaction.
Smart itinerary builder. Users add destinations, activities, restaurants, and accommodations to a day-by-day timeline. The app automatically organizes items by proximity and suggests optimal routing between stops. Drag and drop to rearrange, swipe to remove.
Integrated booking. Flights, hotels, and experiences can be browsed and booked without leaving the app. Price comparisons, availability calendars, and instant confirmation keep everything in one flow.
Collaborative planning. Shared trip boards let travel companions add suggestions, vote on activities, and split costs. Real-time sync means everyone sees the same itinerary. No more "did you see my message in the group chat?"
Offline access. Downloaded itineraries, maps, and booking confirmations are available without internet. Essential for international travel where data connectivity is unreliable.
Local recommendations. AI-powered suggestions based on the user's interests, past trips, and current location. Hidden gems and local favorites alongside popular attractions.
Clean, airy visual design. Light theme with soft shadows, rounded cards, and generous whitespace. The design feels calm and organized, the opposite of how trip planning usually feels. Destination photography is the visual hero throughout.

Navigation Structure

The app is organized around four core tabs:
Explore for destination discovery and inspiration
My Trips for active and past itineraries
Bookings for all reservations in one place
Profile for preferences, saved places, and travel history
Each tab serves a distinct phase of the travel lifecycle: dreaming, planning, managing, and reflecting.

The Result

A fully designed travel planning mobile app built in Figma, focused on consolidating the fragmented trip planning experience into one intuitive interface. The design serves travel startups, tourism platforms, and hospitality companies looking for a mobile app that turns trip planning from a scattered, stressful process into an organized, enjoyable experience.
