Project Name: Clinical Sift Studio Banner: Salish Hawk Studios Role: Lead Full-Stack Developer & UI/UX Designer Tech Stack: React, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript, Canvas UI, Lucide Icons Target Audience: Somatic practitioners, trauma-informed clinics, bodywork therapists, and neurodivergent-focused health collectives

Executive Summary

Traditional digital intake forms are often cold, mechanical, and visually overwhelming. For individuals experiencing sensory overload, acute trauma, or high cognitive load, completing a standard medical form can induce stress before care even begins.
Clinical Sift re-engineers onboarding for somatic and trauma-informed health practices. Designed around low-stimulation design principles, the application provides an unhurried, gentle intake flow. It respects sensory boundaries while capturing critical clinical triage data—such as body-tension mapping, nervous system stress levels, and environment adjustments—ensuring practitioners are fully prepared before the client steps into the room.

The Challenge

High Cognitive Load & Form Fatigue: Long text fields, harsh visual layouts, and strict validation errors can trigger stress or freeze responses in vulnerable clients.
Missing Sensory & Somatic Context: Standard forms capture insurance and generic symptoms but fail to collect critical somatic details like nervous system state, touch sensitivity, or environmental preferences (e.g., light dimming or scent sensitivities).
Lack of Pacing Control: Traditional onboarding forces a rigid pace, whereas somatic care requires client agency over how fast or deep information is gathered.

The Solution: A Neuro-Calm Digital Intake Engine

Clinical Sift replaces cold, clinical forms with a single-column, low-stimulation web application built using a deep dark obsidian slate palette and soft ice-cyan focus indicators.

Key Features & Technical Highlights

Sensory & Environment Mode Pre-Selection (Step 01): Clients choose their preferred onboarding pace before answering clinical questions:
Low-Stimulation Mode: Reduced visual contrast, zero animation/motion effects, and simplified layout hierarchy for high cognitive load.
Guided Somatic Pace: Step-by-step interactive prompts with gentle visual feedback.
Standard Digital Intake: Complete suite with full practitioner messaging and scheduling capabilities.
Somatic Body-Zone Triage & Interactive Stress Slider (Step 02): Replaces open-ended symptom boxes with intuitive, low-friction selections:
Multi-select focus zones: Nervous System Dysregulation, Chronic Muscle Tension, Jaw/Neck Pressure, and Sensory Overload.
Interactive State Slider: Allows clients to dial in their current nervous system state along a spectrum from Calm / Grounded to High Overload / Freeze Response.
Practitioner Match & Environment Customization (Step 03): Gathers critical session parameters to help practitioners prepare a safe physical or virtual space:
Session Pacing Toggles: Gentle / Slow Onboarding, Deep Somatic Release, or Structure & Cognitive Focus.
Environmental Adjustments: Checkbox options for Dim lighting preferences, Scent-free room requests, and Virtual telehealth options.
Encrypted Submission & Graceful Demo Handling (Step 04): Collects preferred names, safe contact channels (Text, Email, Secure App), and optional notes. Features fallback handling and safe client-side state resolution to ensure zero visual breaking or alarming error screens during the onboarding process.
