📚 The Hidden Library – A Story-Driven Dark Academia Adventure
Sound Design & Original Score by Melita Pilunts
🔍 About the Game
The Hidden Library is a 2D hand-drawn point-and-click adventure set in early 2000s Southern Russia. You play as Lena, a 13-year-old girl who uncovers her late grandfather’s secret archive of banned Soviet-era literature. Each level is inspired by a censored book, blending narrative exploration with puzzles and immersive world-building.
Developed by Ravencliff Games, the project features a moody dark academia aesthetic, multilingual support (EN, RU, ES), and a strong emotional focus.
As the audio lead, I designed the entire sound environment and musical identity for the game. Each level’s soundscape is crafted to match its literary theme—ranging from surreal, magical realism to oppressive dystopias.
Key Contributions:
Composed the full original soundtrack in Ableton Live, blending ambient textures, piano motifs, and analog-inspired instrumentation
Created custom sound design for environments, UI, puzzles, and cutscenes
Designed interactive sound layers that evolve with narrative tension
Recorded and processed foley effects to enhance atmosphere (e.g. turning pages, creaking wood, rain on windows)
Collaborated closely with the writers and animators to sync audio cues to visual storytelling

đź’¬ What I Learned
Working on The Hidden Library taught me how to compose narratively, crafting music that doesn’t just fill space, but tells part of the story. I learned how to build sound systems that react to pacing and how to create intimacy through sound, even in abstract or surreal moments.
