The Hummingbird is a short film blending drama, mystery, and sci-fi. It tells the story of a young boy navigating emotional neglect from his cold, workaholic father—and his search for the reason behind that detachment. What he uncovers is both shocking and surreal.

Written, directed, and produced by Jayson Sison, the film stars Lorcán Baixi Doyle and Zhen Li, and was produced by Tri-Weave Film Studio.

I was brought on board to create the original score, with a total of eight minutes of music across the film. My goal was to underscore the emotional isolation and eerie undertones without overpowering the story.

Wrote, produced, and mixed an original score in Ableton Live

Blended piano, granular textures, and electronic elements to reflect the film’s emotional arc

Used motivic development to reflect the father-son dynamic

Created a final cue that shifts from subtle melancholy to unsettling realization

Worked in close collaboration with the director to time emotional beats and narrative shifts

Opening Theme – Fragile piano, reversed textures

Discovery Cue – Low drones and analog delays

Ending Scene – Happy and fulfilled resolution
