The Brief
Marzipan is a self-initiated typeface project. The goal was to design a serif font specifically suited for cookbook design and food-related editorial, something that feels warm, classic, and inviting on the page.
The Approach
The starting point was classic serif typography, but with a focus on the specific feeling cookbooks need: warmth, readability, and a sense of craft. The typeface needed to feel at home next to food photography and recipe layouts without competing for attention.
Key Decisions
Marzipan is a serif typeface with asymmetric serifs, giving it a subtle distinctiveness that sets it apart from standard book serifs. A stylistic set adds further flexibility for designers who want to vary the character. The design is one style, focused on getting the core weight right rather than expanding into a full family. The typeface is currently unreleased.
