Thumbnail Design | Primer

Primer is a network of K-8 microschools. Pursuits are the hands-on projects students work on in class. Students see them as cards, so the artwork is usually the first thing that tells them what they're about to spend a few weeks doing.

I worked on the pursuit thumbnails, creating a visual system that makes each project easy to tell apart. I had full creative freedom and explored a new visual direction that fits naturally with Primer's existing brand identity.

There are six subjects in total: Math, Literacy, Civics, Science, PE, and Arts. Some generic pursuits bring together two subjects rather than focusing on one specific topic, so I also designed covers for each subject pairing. Each cover combines imagery related to the subjects, following the same visual system as the main pursuit thumbnails.
