Turning food commerce into an experience worth craving
500 Chow isn’t just another food delivery startup; it’s a food commerce platform.
Built on the promise of making meals fun, fast, and fresh, the brand quickly carved out its own space in Nigeria’s bustling food-tech sector. But while the taste was already winning hearts, the brand needed a website that could do the same.
That’s where I stepped in, contracted to lead the web design and development for 500 Chow, tasked with creating an online experience that wasn’t just functional, but also playful, magnetic, and high-converting.
Competing With the Food Giants
The challenge was clear: in a world of heavyweights like Uber Eats, Jumia Food, and Glovo, 500 Chow needed a bold style that didn’t just say “we deliver food” but screamed “we deliver vibes.”
The brand was confident in its service, which is delicious meals, delivered affordably and quickly.
But confidence alone doesn’t win attention online. Design had to be the differentiator. My mission was to build a website that converted hungry visitors into loyal customers, while carrying the full weight of 500 Chow’s fun, youthful identity.
Designing with Flavor
I started with the ingredients, where every good dish begins. Through mood boards, layouts, and micro-interactions, I worked to find the perfect balance of creativity and function.
Bold colors. Punchy typography. Content that wasn’t just text on a screen but a taste of what 500 Chow promised: food that bangs every single time.
From the hero section, visitors are greeted with an invitation into a visual feast, photography that sells flavor, instant previews of popular meals, and the ability to order on the spot without jumping through hoops.
Because when you’re hungry, every second matters.
Building Trust, One Bite at a Time
A strong e-commerce experience isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about trust. So the site flow was designed like a story:
Mouthwatering hero visuals → Social proof through customer reviews → Clarity with FAQs and support → A final nudge into the app, newsletter, or community.
The site is designed as a guided journey from craving to conversion, all wrapped in a creative design that never lets the brand’s personality slip.
Performance That Matches the Appetite
Speed was everything. I built and launched the site on Webflow, weaving in SEO optimization and a two-second page load guarantee. Hungry customers don’t wait, so the site shouldn’t make them.
The results spoke louder than words:
20,000+ monthly food deliveries since launch.
Expansion into 3 new cities.
A surge in app downloads, jumping from 1,000 to 3,000+ installs.
500 Chow didn’t just serve meals; it built a growing food-tech community that feels as fresh and exciting as the dishes it delivers.
Creative Success
For me, the 500 Chow project was more than a design brief. It was a chance to blend branding with web design in a way that made an entire business more magnetic. By fusing creativity with conversion, the website became the secret sauce in 500 Chow’s rapid growth story.
And just like the food, the design didn’t just look good, it banged.
