Xinxi is a social platform designed for close friends and family to share life’s precious moments in a secure, private space. Focused on emotional connections and legacy preservation, it redefines how families interact, creating a lasting digital tapestry that celebrates relationships now and for future generations.

Design Objective

To create a highly secure, empathy-driven, and personalised social media platform that helps users preserve and share memories in deeply meaningful ways, while providing an intuitive, customizable experience.

Challenge

Xinxi confronts the challenge of creating a private, secure space for sharing intimate milestones, balancing personal privacy with the desire to preserve memories for future generations, all in a landscape dominated by public, fleeting social media.

Design Process

We adopted an empathy-driven design process to understand users' emotional needs. Through in-depth research, we identified the challenges people face in sharing and preserving memories. This insight informed our iterative design, ensuring functional yet emotionally resonant solutions that foster meaningful connections and enrich family legacies.

Market Analysis

In a landscape saturated with social media platforms, we conducted a thorough market analysis to pinpoint where Xinxi could make a difference. We scrutinized competitors, identifying a glaring absence of emotionally resonant, privacy-focused solutions

Market Analysis

To truly empathize with our target audience, we engaged potential users through immersive interviews and dynamic focus groups. What we discovered was eye-opening: users yearned for a platform that transcends mere sharing, a place where their stories could flourish securely.

Understanding the User

Research Insights

Privacy is paramount: Users wanted to keep personal memories away from public platforms.

Emotional connection is key: The ability to schedule messages or memories for future milestones was seen as a powerful way to stay connected with loved ones.

Ease of use: Users preferred a simple, clean interface where they could focus on preserving memories without being overwhelmed by too many features.

Customization: Being able to personalize spaces like their home screen or memory feeds was a major desire.

Support for Different Life Stages: Users expressed a need for features that cater to various life milestones, allowing them to document significant events like births, graduations, and anniversaries meaningfully.

Accessibility: Ensuring the platform is user-friendly for all family members, including older generations who may not be tech-savvy, was crucial for fostering engagement.

Feature Prioritization and Sprint Planning

To deliver an empathy-driven, user-centered experience on time, we structured prioritized feature sets with clear sprint goals, balancing user needs and technical feasibility. Using the MoSCoW method, we ensured efficient resource allocation and timely iteration, resulting in a cohesive final product.

The design process commenced with a clear focus on user flow, which is essential for creating an intuitive experience.

Design Evolution

We began with wireframes to establish a clear user flow, focusing on simplifying key actions like capturing memories and scheduling messages. As the designs progressed into high-fidelity mockups, we refined the aesthetics to evoke warmth and security, using soft pastel colours and approachable typography.

Personalized Homepage

The homepage is structured to provide immediate access to key actions like scheduling messages and storing memories. Clear navigation and prominent actions reduce effort, inviting users to engage effortlessly from the start.

Messaging and Scheduling

Designed with empathy, the scheduled messaging feature enables users to plan meaningful messages to reach loved ones on significant dates. The interface is intuitive, making the scheduling process simple and thoughtful.

Memory Wall

The Memory Archive allows users to document and organize memories in a way that feels personal. With customizable albums and tagging options, users can create a secure digital legacy that’s easy to revisit.

Group Features

Users can create and manage groups to share memories and messages with specific circles. This feature fosters community by allowing users to collaborate on shared experiences, enhancing their connection with friends and family.

Document Locker

The document locker provides a secure space for essential records and keepsakes. With easy uploads and organized folders, users can confidently store important documents in one place.

Thoughtful Empty States

The empty states use visual cues and gentle prompts to guide users through unpopulated sections, creating an inviting starting point that encourages exploration and engagement across the platform.

Profile Management

The profile section allows users to manage their information and preferences easily. Focused on simplicity and accessibility, it enables users to personalize their experience with clear, organized settings.

Execution Cycle

Outline

The product journey concluded earlier than anticipated, but it offered valuable insights into designing emotionally resonant, intimate experiences. Despite challenges such as competition and resource limitations, the project reinforced the importance of prioritizing user needs in meaningful, private interactions. These key learnings will shape future projects, ensuring a continued focus on thoughtful and impactful design.

Collaborative Development

We conducted multiple rounds of testing, gathering insights from real users at different stages. This feedback directly informed design adjustments, helping us address pain points and improve the overall user experience.

Iterative Refinements
