HOW I IMPROVED GROWTH ACROSS 3 DIFFERENT BUSINESSES
Growth doesn't always stall in the same place.
Across three very different challenges, the opportunity sat in a different part of the business: building an engaged audience, helping customers progress towards a decision, and improving the commercial profitability of the work itself.
The solution changed each time because the constraint changed.
Results: 22%–460% improvement across measured outcomes
THE CHALLENGE
Each business appeared to have a different growth problem. One had content reaching people but wasn't converting that attention into sustained audience growth. Another had strong mortgage interest but needed to help more customers progress towards a decision. The third was pursuing work without enough visibility into whether the opportunity would actually be profitable.
These weren't problems that could be solved by applying the same growth tactic three times.
The question in each case was: what is preventing the intended outcome?
THE APPROACH
I worked backwards from the outcome each business needed.
That meant looking beyond the most visible symptom to understand what was happening around it: how audiences were behaving, what was influencing customer decisions, or how commercial resources were being allocated.
The intervention then changed according to the constraint.
The principle remained consistent: diagnose what is preventing the outcome before deciding what to optimise.
RESULTS ACROSS EACH PROJECT
460% increase in audience growth
Restructured content and community activity around audience behaviour, participation and consistent engagement.
34% increase in mortgage consideration
Changed how the commercial partnership was positioned and introduced contextual decision cues to strengthen relevance at the point of consideration.
22% improvement in operational margin
Introduced a profitability model to assess opportunities before committing resources, then aligned work with the right teams and expertise.
CLIENT EXAMPLE
01 — Audience & Community Growth
How restructuring content and community activity around audience behaviour contributed to a 460% increase in audience growth over two months.
02 — Customer Journey & Conversion
How changing brand association and introducing contextual decision cues contributed to a 34% increase in mortgage consideration.
03 — Commercial Operations & Profitability
How introducing profitability criteria and restructuring resource allocation contributed to a 22% improvement in operational margin.
KEY OBSERVATION
The problems were different. So were the interventions.
One required building participation. One required strengthening the conditions around a customer decision. One required changing how the business assessed and resourced commercial opportunities.
What remained consistent was the diagnostic question: where is the intended outcome breaking down, and what needs to change there?
Business Impact
Growth isn't always about generating more activity.
Sometimes it comes from getting more from the audience you already reach. Sometimes it's helping an existing customer move forward. And sometimes it's making better decisions about which work the business should pursue in the first place.
Different constraints require different interventions. The starting point is knowing which problem you're actually solving.
