Project goal

Our company found itself at a crossroads when our client, who had previously deployed over 700 outdoor transmission units with preinstalled EMS controllers and sensors, encountered significant integration issues.
Project details:
These problems stemmed from the EMS controllers being configured in a foreign language, causing operational hindrances.
- Furthermore, the task of mapping onboard sensors to their systems required expert knowledge of SNMP and MIB.
- The transmission units were scattered across the country in several telecom cell towers.
Goals:
To develop a solution for the language configuration and provide an SOP for sensor and equipment configuration within 3 months

Solution

To reach the goal, I initiated a comprehensive problem-solving strategy that included defining the processes, KBAs for field engineers and creating a project plan.
I engaged all relevant stakeholders, including our client, the development team, our field engineers, and the client's integration team. I had built a strong relationship with this client, and they had strong faith in me to get the issue resolved. A clear timeline was established to ensure prompt resolution.
Processes implemented:-
Language Barrier Solution: I tasked our product development team with finding a solution to the language issue. Within four days, they devised a fix for the firmware, eliminating the language barrier that had hindered our clients' operations.
- SNMP and OID configuration: Concurrently, I provided our clients with expert support for configuring MIBs and OIDs, facilitating the mapping of their field sensors to their servers. This step was critical to achieving full integration.
- Field Engineers' Deployment: Our dedicated field engineers sprang into action, visiting each of the 700+ sites for the firmware upgrade. Their meticulous work ensured the successful implementation of the solution. In just two months from project inception, the EMS Firmware Upgrade Project was completed, and all 700+ units were ready for integration to our clients' systems.
Tools & techniques used:
-Microsoft suite
- Odoo
- Affectli (for change-request log)
- Regular team building
- Transparent communication less
