Premium CPG Branding & Packaging Design
Brand Role Brand Identity & Packaging Designer
Deliverables: Brand identity, packaging,
OVERVIEW
Most CPG brands make a choice early: go minimal or go loud. NOCTUA was built on the conviction that neither was the right answer. The brief was to create a premium lifestyle CPG brand that commands shelf presence through character and conviction — something that earns attention the way a well-dressed person does. Not by volume. By authority.
THE BRIEF
Build a complete brand identity and packaging system for a premium CPG lifestyle product. The brand needed to be immediately recognizable, shelf-dominant, and character-driven — with enough visual depth to work across multiple touchpoints and reward the consumer who looks closely.
THE CHALLENGE
The lifestyle CPG space defaults to one of two aesthetics: stripped-back minimalism or maximalist streetwear energy. NOCTUA needed a third path — bold and characterful without being loud, premium without being precious. The mascot character had to feel crafted and intentional, not decorative. The gold foil had to earn its place
THE APPROACH
The identity was anchored by a rubber-hose mascot character — a deliberate reference to mid-century American commercial illustration, redrawn with precision and restraint. The high-contrast orange and black palette was chosen for maximum shelf impact. Gold foil was reserved strictly for the logotype emboss — one application, one purpose — so it reads as a mark of quality rather than decoration. The hidden inner wrapper character pattern exists purely for the consumer who engages with the product: a brand moment that rewards attention and drives word-of-mouth that cannot be bought.
THE OUTCOME
A complete brand identity and packaging system: primary logo, secondary marks, mascot character illustration, color system, typography hierarchy, primary SKU packaging, inner wrapper pattern, and brand guidelines. The hidden detail has become the most-discussed element of the project in every presentation.
"The brief wasn't to make something bold. It was to make something that earns its boldness."
