In September, Body Politic launched the #VoicesoftheVirus campaign to elevate the stories and needs of #longCOVID patients. We were grateful to all the COVID patient allies—from healthcare workers to family members to caregivers to activists who stand in solidarity with us—but we needed more folks to step up.
So, we launched a campaign on COVID patient allyship, because #longCOVID patients should not have to shoulder the burden of advocacy and support alone. There were and still are many ways to become a #CovidPatientAlly, from self-educating and spreading awareness on COVID patient issues, to providing virtual caregiving, to leading with compassion and patience.
With this #CovidPatientAlly campaign, we provided more ways to get involved in this movement. We asked our followers, what does COVID patient allyship mean to you? We also invited patients to share a post highlighting the people who supported them during their illness. If they had not contracted COVID, we asked followers to show their solidarity with COVID patients by sharing a post about how they practice #CovidPatientAllyship or by purchasing a #CovidPatientAlly t-shirt.
#LongCOVID patients often feel alone; the experience of being sick can be accompanied by both physical and social isolation, but we decided to change that.
