This annual publication, showcasing how TNC leverages geospatial technology for conservation efforts, is filled with complex maps, data sets, and scientific jargon that needed to be translated into a format that would not overwhelm the reader but rather engage and inform them.
My process began with thorough research and discovery. I collaborated with TNC’s geospatial conservation team to fully understand the content, ensuring that I grasped the technical nuances of the maps and data. From there, I began sketching out possible layouts, considering how the content could be broken down into digestible sections while maintaining clarity and visual appeal. Simplification was the key solution. This helped in breaking down the scientific content into visual cues that were easy to understand.
In terms of layout, I organized the report in a way that balanced heavy data visuals with breathing room, using whitespace strategically to prevent information overload. I also incorporated high-quality imagery and streamlined infographics to complement the text and data, making the report more accessible and engaging without sacrificing the depth of information. The final design successfully conveyed the complexity of the geospatial work while maintaining reader engagement, contributing to the report’s effectiveness in communicating key conservation messages.
